Will COVID-19 vaccine resisters block NJ’s path to herd immunity?

Gov. Murphy Monday launched ‘Operation Jersey Summer’ to convince hold-outs to take the vaccine

COVID-19 vaccine resisters come in two basic forms — total no-go and on-the-fence. New Jersey’s efforts to vaccinate 4.7 million people by July will likely focus more on convincing on-the-fencers.

On Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy launched “Operation Jersey Summer,” a massive outreach campaign that will trade vaccine shots for beer, send 900 volunteers and big vaccination vans out into pockets of resistance in the state, to convince hold-outs to take the vaccine. But some experts warned it could take mandatory school vaccinations to achieve the high level of immunity Murphy seeks.
