Wayne doubles pay for substitute teachers amid statewide shortage

Substitute teachers are in short supply in New Jersey and across the country, leaving some school districts unable to open for in-person learning. To solve that problem, Wayne is double the rate it offers substitutes, from $100 a day to $200.

The strategy is working, securing 80 new substitutes in a district that spent half the year with a shortage of 100 staff positions.
