Two more officers charged in Edna Mahan prison abuse

Two more correctional officers have been charged in violent beatings of inmates at the state’s only women’s prison. According to Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s office, that brings to 10 the number of officers charged in the January incident at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women.

Officers are accused of forcibly removing prisoners from their cells and carrying out an assault or aiding in its cover-up. The incident and arrests follow years of complaints by inmates about sexual and physical abuse at the prison.
