Three big vaccination sites to close, as Essex County shifts COVID-19 strategy

The county will focus on smaller, more local efforts

With fewer people turning out to get COVID-19 shots, Essex County has decided to shift its strategy and close three major vaccination sites. Instead, the county will focus on smaller, more local efforts to get shots in arms — including mobile and pop-up vaccination sites.

Health experts fear the demand for the vaccine could plateau before the country reaches the herd immunity they believe is required to reopen fully. In response, the federal government is funneling more vaccine to thousands of pharmacies across the U.S. Drugstores in New Jersey expect to see demand increase among their customers.
