Tech troubles for NJ’s COVID-19 smartphone app

Epidemiologist says it’s not user-friendly and that’s a problem

New Jersey’s mobile app for storing COVID-19 vaccination records — called Docket — apparently experienced a rush of downloads and tech troubles, particularly after it was announced that New York City would mandate proof of vaccination for entry to indoor venues like restaurants, gyms and entertainment.

So far, almost 120,600 people have downloaded the app — which stores vaccination information like type of vaccine received and related dates. According to the New Jersey Department of Health, “The vendor has been adding upgrades and we will continue to address issues as they arise…” The app’s helpline does assist callers; and stubborn cases will get tickets for IT follow-up.
