Supply issues cause vaccination mega-sites to temporarily close

Two of the state’s six COVID-19 vaccination mega-sites had to close temporarily because they didn’t have vaccines. The Meadowlands site closed Monday and remains closed as it awaits a shipment; according to Hackensack Meridian Health, the site will reopen Wednesday. The mega-site at Rowan College in Gloucester County reopened Tuesday after closing Monday for the same reason.

Meanwhile, confusion over vaccination scheduling at the Rowan College site, as well as a handful of others, has led to some individuals being left without second-dose appointments. Gloucester County officials said last week they were unable to schedule the follow-up shots and blamed the state’s vaccination scheduling system. But Department of Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said Monday that vaccination sites were told to make the second appointment before the person leaves their first appointment since second doses are set aside to ensure steady supply.
