Storm cleanup continues for Essex County businesses

Bloomfield Township has added bulk pickup days to help businesses and residents clean out debris

Businesses in Montclair and Bloomfield are trying their best to get things back to normal after last week’s Tropical Storm Ida. Many say floodwaters left them with damage totaling anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000. President Biden declared six counties in New Jersey disaster areas, but Essex County isn’t one of them. Business owners in Essex and other counties not on the list say they’re hoping that will change so they can become eligible for relief.

Anthony Lauro, who owns Anthony’s Cheesecake and Restaurant in downtown Bloomfield, said, “My guess right now is at least $50,000 loss of business, and I didn’t even include the sales we’ve lost.”
