Rutgers to start clinical trial of Pfizer vaccine in kids 12 and under

The trial will watch for any side effects and aim to determine appropriate dosages

The Pediatric Clinical Research Center at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will study the Pfizer vaccine in up to 200 children, half in the 5 to 12 age group, the other half under 5 years old; they will be followed for two years to watch for any side effects.

The trial aims to determine the appropriate dosage for the different age groups and measure its efficacy. An emergency use authorization could begin as early as the summer, but that’s too fast for some skeptical parents who don’t want their kids vaccinated yet.
