Protest over Amazon air cargo facility at Newark airport

Protestors say they fear the project will lead to dirtier air, more health issues in neighboring communities

Dozens of residents, community leaders and environmental activists gathered in Newark Wednesday to protest a plan to place two Amazon air cargo facilities, each 250,000 square feet in size, at Newark airport. They said the deal with the Port Authority will lead to increased pollution and congestion.

The proposed facilities are expected to bring 1,000 jobs to the area but protestors say that doesn’t matter if the company isn’t taking care of its employees. Former workers have accused Amazon of mistreating staff. We contacted Amazon and the Port Authority for comment but have not yet had a response.
