Official launch of NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission

A milestone for the state’s recreational marijuana industry: Monday marks the official launch of a powerful state commission tasked with regulating the new legal market, along with the state’s medicinal marijuana program.

The five-member Cannabis Regulatory Commission has broad authority in shaping the structure for both, from granting licenses for new pot businesses to deciding how to spend tax dollars. Wrangling over the framework took months; then came sharp criticism from social justice groups about the racial makeup of the commission.

Senior Correspondent David Cruz was monitoring the meeting, which lasted only about 45 minutes.
