NJ Transit’s train control system gets federal approval

Positive Train Control system reduces risk if a mistake is made. The system will overtake and correct the error

NJ Transit needed to meet an end-of-year deadline to install Positive Train Control (PTC) to prevent accidents. With two weeks to go before the deadline, the agency was certified Friday by the Federal Railroad Administration; Gov. Phil Murphy made the announcement from an NJ Transit maintenance yard in Kearny. There had been concern that NJ Transit would miss the deadline. Senior Correspondent David Cruz reports.
