NJ Transit will begin pilot program for electric buses

The buses will be deployed in Camden and Newark

New Jersey Transit will deploy electric buses in a pilot program in Camden and Newark. The program also includes updating old bus garages with charging equipment and redesigning bus routes. Current electric buses cannot hold a charge long enough to cover the same routes as existing diesel vehicles.

The plan marks one step toward reaching Gov. Phil Murphy’s mandate for the agency to create a 100% zero-emissions bus fleet by 2040.
