New Jersey has plenty of company in the rise of new coronavirus infections. The United States on Friday surpassed 8 million COVID-19 cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Former Gov. Chris Christie admits it was a mistake not to wear a mask to the Rose Garden nomination ceremony of judge Amy Coney Barrett — now considered to be a superspreader event for the coronavirus. Christie spent a week in the hospital after becoming infected, including time in the ICU.

Friday health officials reported another 823 new positive cases pushing the cumulative total to 217,804 with five new deaths and 16,202 total fatalities.
