More state residents will soon be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Gov. Phil Murphy Friday expanded the eligibility pool to include those 55 and older and those over the age of 16 with intellectual and developmental disabilities starting April 5. The next tier of essential workers will also be included; that’s higher education teachers and staff, public utility, communication support, sanitation workers, those in the media and more.

Friday, officials announced 5,884 new, positive cases and 28 deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 781,777 cases in the state and 24,358 confirmed and probable deaths.
