With less than a week before President-elect Joe Biden takes office, he unveiled a $1.9 trillion pandemic rescue package. It includes more direct stimulus checks, help for the unemployed, and money to ramp up vaccine rollout and testing.

Gov. Phil Murphy was optimistic Friday about increasing New Jersey’s vaccine supply after Biden takes office. Friday morning, he toured the state’s fourth of six planned vaccine megasites in Edison. It’s a key part of distribution, as vaccine appointments surge in the wake of expanded eligibility.

Friday officials reported another 5,490 newly-diagnosed cases for a total of 555,299 total. With 67 more deaths, there are 20,320 confirmed and probable fatalities. Hospitalization numbers remain stable at 3,549. It’s a good sign two weeks post-holiday, according to the health commissioner.
