Heavy rains and strong winds are expected to soak the state on Christmas eve. Utility crews on the lookout for power outages, but that’s no match for Santa’s sleigh. This year he’s also carrying a vital package: doses of both Moderna and Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccines. As of Wednesday morning the state Health Department reported nearly 28,000 first-round inoculations have been administered statewide.

Thursday the state Health Department reported another 4,871 new confirmed COVID-19 positive tests. In total, 448,842 New Jersey residents have had the virus. With 80 additional deaths, there are now 18,544 confirmed and probable fatalities.
