Polls are a 'snapshot in time,' not the final tally

Just three weeks out from the Nov. 3 election and the voting process is well underway with tens of thousands of mail-in ballots cast already in New Jersey. State records show more than 120,000 voters registered in September — a record pace. The total voting pool is now close to 6.4 million residents as the deadline to register closes Tuesday.

Voter registration numbers were boosted in part by a new online portal that launched in September. More people might be looking to the polls for potential outcomes, but after the issues with polls for the 2016 election, just how much weight should be placed in them?
