Newark starts 10-day voluntary shutdown to control COVID-19

COVID-19 cases are climbing in Newark and Mayor Ras Baraka is maneuvering to manage the crisis; his advisory 10-day shutdown begins Wednesday. He wants all nonessential businesses to close and residents to shelter at home unless they need food or medicine.

Some neighborhoods in the city have COVID-19 infection rates four times the rest of the state. Heavy-handed? Yes, says the mayor, but potentially life-saving, too. Senior Correspondent Brenda Flanagan has the story.
