Newark aims to launch guaranteed income program by end of 2020

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka spoke to Business Correspondent Rhonda Schaffler about the city’s guaranteed income pilot program that they are hoping to launch by the end of the year. The city is still in the fundraising stage, but they have put out a report outlining the trial studies they are going to undertake once they have the money.

Baraka points to the federal stimulus checks given out during the pandemic as evidence for why a similar program can work, and why it is a great way to help residents in need while creating an economic boost for the city.
