Essential workers in New Jersey who get infected with the coronavirus will now have an easier time qualifying for workers’ compensation. Gov. Phil Murphy has signed into law a bill that would allow those workers to receive the benefit without having to prove they got sick while on the job. The bill’s sponsors say essential workers should have access to financial safeguards and quality medical care. Business groups argue the new law would place another financial burden on companies that are struggling to recover.
Move over Nevada, New Jersey now holds the nationwide record for the most money bet in a month on sports. Gamblers wagered $668 million in the state in August, beating the previous record set in Nevada last November. Meantime, Atlantic City’s overall casino win in August was down more than 30% compared to a year ago, as there are restrictions on the number of visitors allowed in the casinos.
Atlantic Health System is expanding its partnership with CentraState Healthcare System. Atlantic Health chief executive officer Brian Gragnolati says the two systems share a commitment to providing value-based care, which places an emphasis on improving patient outcomes. Atlantic Health and CentraState already have a clinical affiliation.
Monmouth County is getting its first medical marijuana dispensary. Garden State Dispensary will open an office in Eatontown Thursday. The facility will be the 12th in New Jersey. There are currently more than 86,000 patients enrolled in the state’s medical marijuana program.
