New Jersey sees increase in homicides in 2020

Paterson is among the cities dealing with a 2020 homicide rate that’s set a new record

New state police statistics may be giving a false sense of security about overall crime trends across New Jersey. While data shows a 13% decline, violent crime is up in certain areas, with homicides up as much as 23%.

Newark ended the year having not one officer discharging their weapon. But that accomplishment was quickly overshadowed not long after calendars turned to 2021. Correspondent Michael Hill reports.
