Nation’s largest nurses union criticizes CDC mask guidance

National Nurses United calls on CDC to revise guidelines, saying frontline workers, especially nurses, are being put at risk

The head of the nation’s largest nurses union is backing Gov. Phil Murphy’s indoor mask decision and criticizing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new mask guidance. The CDC now says people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors with few exceptions.

In a critical report, National Nurses United called on the CDC to revise its guidelines, saying frontline workers, especially nurses, are the ones being put at risk. The guidance does not apply to health care settings or certain public areas. But the union says the CDC’s update created mass confusion and used incomplete data and studies to make the decision.
