Murphy backers dismiss complaints from Black pastor

The pastor of a predominantly Black church in Newark is unleashing on Gov. Phil Murphy. In a sharply worded nearly 10-page letter, Reverend David Jefferson says Murphy exploited and betrayed the Black community that elected him. He accused the governor of pandering to his minority base on the campaign trail, only to abandon them once in office.

Murphy supporters point to the governor’s record, considered to be one of the most progressive in state history. The timing of the letter is critical, on the eve of a reelection campaign.
