May shows surprising job growth

The U.S. economy created 2.5 million jobs last month, shocking economists who were expecting to see millions of additional job losses. While the report was positive, the gains were not enough to offset more than 20 million jobs lost in the prior two months.

Rutgers University has reached a tentative agreement with union leaders on a shared work/furlough program that will protect approximately 450 jobs. The program allows the university to save costs and avoid layoffs of workers represented by two AFSCME union locals. The unions represent workers in numerous non-teaching positions.
