Jersey City students learn about Indigenous people — and Columbus

Many across the country have advocated for Columbus Day to be renamed Indigenous People’s Day

On Monday, Columbus Day, for the first time the holiday was also officially recognized as Indigenous People’s Day by President Joe Biden through a proclamation. In Jersey City, one school decided to forgo its traditional day off and instead honor the newly recognized holiday and teach students about the people who were already here when explorer Christopher Columbus came ashore.
