It’s ‘Russian roulette’ to go unvaccinated as COVID-19 infections increase, warns health expert

Rate of infections attributed to delta variant soars

With New Jersey’s rate of COVID-19 infections rising, “you are really playing Russian roulette at this point” if you go unvaccinated, said epidemiologist Stephanie Silvera of Montclair State University.

The state logged 750 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, driven in part by fallout from the July 4 holiday and the increasing prevalence of the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus; 51.4% of new cases in New Jersey are attributed to delta.

Public health officials again urged vaccine holdouts to get vaccinated, noting increasing cases of COVID-19 among young, healthy people.
