Immigration reformers want ‘fair and welcoming’ NJ

The New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice has launched “Fair and Welcoming: New Jersey For All,” a campaign that seeks protections for those in the immigrant community. The advocates are calling on state officials to change policies they say harm immigrants.

Those reforms would include ensuring that local law enforcement couldn’t investigate, detain, report, or arrest people for immigration enforcement. They also support a bill that would eliminate new, and some existing, ICE contracts with detention centers in the state. They are critical of the current process of holding detainees for months, even years, pending a court date.
