Immigrant activists say more COVID-19 relief aid needed for excluded workers

Advocates and workers rallied in Trenton, calling on the Legislature to increase funds being provided for undocumented workers who were ineligible for state and federal pandemic relief aid.

Last month Gov. Phil Murphy announced a $40 million fund for excluded residents that will include one-time payments of up to $2,000. The funds will be given to workers who meet a certain income threshold and can prove they suffered economic hardship due to COVID-19. But activists say it is not nearly enough and will reach less than 10% of individuals and families in need.
