After a historic debate Wednesday on the House floor, members of Congress voted to impeach President Donald Trump for his role in inciting the deadly attack at the U.S. Capitol. It’s the first time in United States history that a president was impeached twice.
At least 10 Republicans voted in favor of impeachment, with many others saying the move would be divisive so close to Trump’s final days in office. The Senate is not scheduled to hold its trial before he leaves office next week.
The move to impeach comes after an unsuccessful attempt to convince Vice President Mike Pence and cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power.
