Gov. Murphy ‘strongly’ urges all residents to mask up in crowded indoor venues

Murphy’s recommendation is broader in scope than latest CDC guidance

Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday “strongly” urged all New Jersey residents — whether vaccinated against COVID-19 or not — to mask up in crowded or risky indoor venues, especially if some people there might not be vaccinated or might be immunocompromised. Murphy’s recommendation is broader in scope than that announced Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which confined its renewed indoor masking request to COVID-19 hotspot counties.

The governor reserved the right to reinstate a statewide mask mandate if New Jersey’s rates of infection and death from COVID-19 keep climbing.
