On a day when the New Jersey chapter of the National Organization for Women was endorsing the Murphy ticket for reelection as champions for women’s issues, Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli was painting a different image of the governor in a new digital ad.
The ad features Katie Brennan, whose rape allegations against a fellow Murphy 2017 campaign staffer shone a spotlight on the toxic environment of politics in New Jersey and resulted in legislative hearings and reforms. Ciattarelli said he wanted to remind voters of the man who was at the top of the ticket at the time.
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, who criticized Murphy’s handling of the Brennan allegations and who co-chaired related hearings in 2019, questioned Ciattarelli’s motives Thursday. “What I find interesting is, while it was going on, I didn’t hear his voice. During the four years of the Trump administration, I didn’t hear his voice.”
