Fallout continues after damning report into Edna Mahan prison for women

Corrections commissioner resigns a day after announcement that Edna Mahan Correctional Facility will be closing

The fallout continues from an independent investigative report into the state’s only women’s prison with the resignation of the Department of Corrections commissioner. Marcus Hicks announced Tuesday that he will leave his post effective June 18.

The resignation by Hicks comes after a stunning decision by Gov. Phil Murphy to close the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women after a report was released Monday of an investigation into violent cell extractions at the prison in January.
