House will vote Wednesday on impeachment

In an unprecedented ending to a presidency with just eight days to go, U.S. House Democrats plan to vote Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump. The vote will happen exactly one week after a violent mob that was encouraged by the president attacked the Capitol.

Trump is facing a single charge of “incitement of insurrection.” But first, Democrats are urging Vice President Mike Pence and cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from office; the vice president has not indicated whether he will exercise that constitutional authority.

On Tuesday, Trump again took no responsibility and showed no regret for his role in inciting the deadly riot, instead placing blame on the racial protests that ignited across the country during the summer. He told reporters that impeachment efforts are causing “tremendous anger and danger to our country.”
