Demand is up in NJ for COVID-19 tests as more work sites, venues reopen

New Quest Diagnostics facility in Clifton can handle large volumes of work

Even as more people get vaccinated, there’s a high demand for COVID-19 testing in New Jersey. “It’s just that society is opening up and a lot of companies and social events are requiring testing even if you’re vaccinated — because with the delta variant, you can still be vaccinated and carrying the virus,” said Dr. Kerry LeBenger, clinical immunologist with Summit Health.

As the demand for testing rises, so does the demand for quick turn-around results from specimen testing companies like Quest Diagnostics, which has opened up a new laboratory in Clifton. “The facility has been designed to handle large volumes of work. We have the ability within the facility to expand as needs and demands grow. What this pandemic showed us was that increased capacity can be a critical component for labs in the future if we face another pandemic like this,” said Quest Diagnostics senior director of program management Robert Roggeman.
