Community policing: Examining what works — and what doesn’t work

Rutgers researcher discusses how policing can benefit or counteract violence reduction efforts

New research out of Rutgers University-Camden is shedding light on the successes and failures of community policing; not all tactics are created equal. According to Kayla Prieto Hodge, co-author and assistant professor, formats that focus on building relationships may reduce violence but so-called proactive policing actually has the opposite effect.
