Citing Postal Service slowdowns, lawmakers fear ballots won’t arrive in time

Reps. Pascrell and Malinowski demand answers from postmaster general

Two Democratic congressmen say they’re being illegally blocked from visiting a mail distribution center in Kearny as concerns grow over the integrity and security of the mail-in ballot process for the general election.

Reps. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-9) and Tom Malinowski (D-7) are demanding answers from the United States postmaster general after they were denied an emergency visit to a Hudson County postal center. The two said they have made several attempts to inspect the facility’s mail handling capacity and will continue to keep trying.

“I know the postal employees are doing their best. These are men and women with great integrity who are trying to do their job but I want to hear from them. Are these changes actually being suspended? Are we going to see positive improvements before Election Day and if not what can we do about it?” said Malinowski. Correspondent Leah Mishkin reports.
