A U.S. Capitol police officer with New Jersey ties has died as a result of injuries sustained from the violent mob attack in DC. It’s the fifth death related to the riot.

Officer Brian Sicknick was a 12-year veteran, South River native and Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School graduate. On Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy offered his condolences, adding, “His needless murder at the hands of a mob bent on overthrowing the Constitution he had dedicated his life to upholding is shocking.” Murphy went on to call for those rioters involved to be held legally accountable.
