Asm. Brown Says Interview Comments About Christie-Norcross Deal Not What He Meant

Assemblyman Chris Brown says he did not mean to insinuate that Gov. Christie and Democrat George Norcross made a deal.

In a recent radio interview, Assemblyman Chris Brown (R-2) made comments alluding to Gov. Chris Christie and Democrat George Norcross making a deal so Christie wouldn’t do much to help Republicans in the southern portion of New Jersey for the general election. Brown told NJTV News Managing Editor Mike Schneider that the comments made on the show are not what he meant.

“I haven’t listened to the hour-long interview, but that is certainly not what I meant,” said Brown. “Doing this interview and all the countless hours of TV and radio interviews that I have given over the last two years, I continually expressed my appreciation of the governor, his efforts to revitalize Atlantic City and now he has changed the dialogue in Trenton from tax and spend to reducing spending and cutting taxes and really how amazing it is that in New Jersey a Republican may be a presidential candidate?”

The host of the radio show, Harry Hurley, said that Brown’s comments were that Christie made a deal with Norcross and Democrats and that Christie did not help raise money for Atlantic County candidates. Brown said that it’s not what he meant and that both himself and Assemblyman John Amodeo had money left over from their campaigns.

Brown said that Republicans throughout the state were lucky to have Christie at the top of the ticket and that the type of popularity that Christie had was something that Republicans were fortunate to have in a blue state.

Brown also said that it is not his intent to blame Christie for Amodeo’s loss in his reelection bid.

“I’m new to the political world,” said Brown. “I have been there for two years but I am not creating the buzz. I am simply telling you that that certainly would not be my intent nor what I meant.”

As for the governor’s performance throughout the campaign, Brown said he was happy with the governor.
