As Newark lockdown ends, Mayor Baraka snaps back at critics

The 10-day lockdown went into effect the day before Thanksgiving to try to curb COVID-19 spread

The 10-day lockdown put into effect by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is scheduled to end Friday. It asked residents to stay at home starting the day before Thanksgiving to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. COVID-19 has been ravaging the state’s largest city, with nearly 17,000 cases there as of Friday.

The city’s public safety director said the lockdown will not be extended, but that could change if conditions worsen. Senior Correspondent David Cruz reports that Baraka is calling out critics of his aggressive action.
