State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli says community spread of the coronavirus is here in New Jersey — and it’s here to stay for a while, pointing to the latest number of positive cases released Wednesday.
The state’s total is now at 22,255 statewide, with over 3,649 new cases overnight and 91 more fatalities. That brings the statewide total to 355 deaths.
But Gov. Phil Murphy adds we’re still a week away from seeing the impact of the stay at home order. The anticipated surge appears to be occurring in the northern part of the state in Bergen and Essex Counties. According to the Murphy administration, last night seven hospitals reported temporary “divert status,” meaning beds were full and no new patients were being accepted.
