Air travel takes off, with more people keen to see family and go on vacation

Over Memorial Day weekend the TSA screened 1.9 million passengers

The baggage claim area is bustling again at Newark Liberty International Airport. Air travel spiked to its highest level in more than a year over the Memorial Day weekend and many people say they feel safer flying now with vaccination rates climbing.

Some travelers yearn to see family after spending months apart, sheltering from COVID-19. Others seek an escape to destinations like Hawaii, Alaska and Latin America, according to industry analysts, who say that business traffic is still down 75% to 80% compared to pre-COVID-19 travel and could take a couple of years to fully recover.
