Advocates say renters still need more protections as the pandemic continues

Despite a pandemic-related freeze on evictions in New Jersey, renters across the state have reported being illegally locked out of their homes. The evicton freeze was put in place to help residents struggling financially due to the coronavirus pandemic. Advocates warn the state could face an eviction crisis once the moratorium is lifted — scheduled for June 17, unless Gov. Phil Murphy extends the public health emergency.
