Booker Looks to Share Stage with Top Tier Candidates in San Francisco Swing

New Jersey senator’s ratings are currently in single digits, but his campaign is looking for him to break out of the pack

May 31, 2019 — As Cory Booker travels to San Francisco for more events, his campaign is focusing on distinguishing itself from the other two dozen candidates in the race. One way Booker did that was by joining the other candidates in calling for impeachment proceedings to begin in the House following Robert Mueller’s announcement earlier in the week.

Booker also took a swipe at former Vice President Joe Biden’s crime bill from the 1990s which he said resulted in mass incarceration of black and brown people, calling it “shameful.” And he took on Sen. Elizabeth Warren after she said that she would break up social media companies if she were elected president. Booker emphasized that he wouldn't do that if elected.

The campaign is looking to break out of the pack, but the New Jersey senator’s ratings are currently in the single digits. Despite saying numbers don’t matter, Booker and the campaign need to reach the double digits in order to be perceived as part of the top third of candidates.

This weekend he will be attending two big events while in San Francisco. The California Democratic Party Organizing Convention will be an opportunity for him to be on stage with other presidential candidate front runners. After that he’ll attend a MoveOn.org ideas summit.
