District 25 encompasses 21 communities in Morris and Somerset counties: Bernardsville, Boonton Borough and Boonton Township, Chester Borough and Chester Township, Denville, Dover, Mendham Borough and Mendham Township, Mine Hill, Morris Township, Morristown, Mount Arlington, Mountain Lakes, Netcong, Randolph, Rockaway, Roxbury, Victory Gardens, Washington and Wharton.
In what has long been a solidly Republican district, 34 percent of voters have registered with the GOP, 23 percent with the Democrats; most of the rest are unaffiliated.
The district is represented by three Republicans, including the Legislature’s only father-son team. Sen. Anthony R. Bucco, a former mayor of Boonton and Morris County freeholder, has served the last 18 years in Trenton, joining the Senate in 1998. His son, Anthony M. Bucco, is a lawyer and former Boonton Board of Education member first elected in 2010. Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, a Morris Plains lawyer, is finishing his ninth term in the lower house.
No Democrats are running, but three independents are on the ballot. Maureen Castriotta, a former member of the Roxbury Board of Education, is seeking the Senate seat. Challenging for the Assembly seats are Rebecca Feldman, a Morristown councilwoman and member of the town’s special improvement district board, and Jack Curtis, who lives in Mendham and works as a school principal in Roxbury.
