Atlantic City's beach is going to get an $18 million renewal this year with money from the federal government, the state Shore Protection fund, Atlantic City, and Ventnor.
A 5.1-mile stretch of beach will be replenished this spring and fall by the Army Corps of Engineers, which will reconstruct beaches and dunes from Absecon Inlet in Atlantic City to Fredricksburg Avenue at the border of Ventnor and Margate. The project will involve 1 million cubic yards of beach fill in Atlantic City and 325,000 cubic yards in Ventnor. The goal is to restore the beach after past years extreme weather.
Construction will be suspended during tourist season from June 29 to September 5. The federal government is providing 65 percent of the cost, with the state paying about 25 percent.
