'Tis the season for holiday decorating, and for many New Jerseyans that means a real fir Christmas tree. New Jersey ranks 6th in the nation for the number of Christmas tree growers, with 1,150 farms and more than 6,000 acres of trees.

Although most of us in the Garden State buy our trees from local nonprofits and retailers, 79,000 trees are cut each year by families for their own use. Tree farms are located throughout the state.
