For those in the Garden State who believe New Jerseyans aren’t aware of the state’s budget woes, the AAA Clubs of New Jersey have some news. People seem to be paying pretty close attention, since a recent AAA survey showed that 34 percent of motorists were familiar with the arcane term "Transportation Trust Fund." That’s up from 22 percent from the last time AAA asked state motorists to identify the term in 2005.
Maybe even more striking is that 55 percent of those surveyed knew that New Jersey’s gas tax is one of the lowest in the nation -- that’s up from 47 percent in 2005. The AAA’s takeaway from the survey is that more motorists are aware of the poor condition of the roads and that it demonstrates a need for a sustainable source of transportation funding.
