Telephone deregulation was supposed to get consumers more services for less -- but the less part hasn’t worked out for New Jersey's state government. Telephone expenses have risen from $68.8 million to $93.7 million over the past six years, according to YourMoney.NJ.Gov. The cost of telephone use for state business has risen steadily each year, presumably as land lines remain in place while Internet access and mobile telephones become widespread.
