Top speller from NJ wants Scripps to reconsider canceling 2020 Spelling Bee

For the first time since World War II, the Scripps National Spelling Bee is cancelled. It’s just another casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. That means all those word-slinging students who’ve been prepping for the chance to step up to the microphone will have to wait their turn another year.

That is, unless you’re Navneeth Murali. The 14 year old from Edison was a favorite to win this year’s championship and will age out of the system’s eligibility to compete. Senior Correspondent Briana Vannozzi spoke with Murali.
