The Rutgers University Board of Governors has approved a $4.5 billion budget that freezes tuition and fees for students The budget includes an anticipated drop in revenue from housing and dining, as it remains unclear how many students will return to the campus.
It’s still not known when Atlantic City’s casinos will reopen, but the Hard Rock has announced what its reopening will look like. Masks will be required for both casino workers and guests, and thermal imaging will be used to take everyone’s temperature. Social distancing will be required on the casino floor and the casino will be fully sanitized each night. Governor Murphy has said he hopes to open the casinos by the July 4th weekend.
Atlantic City’s casinos may eventually offer more options for gamblers nervous about exchanging and handling money during the pandemic. The American Gaming Association is pushing for casinos to accept cashless transactions – through apps like Apple Pay or PayPal.
Small businesses which applied for EDA grants under the latest round of funding should know by this weekend whether their applications were approved. EDA CEO Tim Sullivan says some 31,000 businesses applied, but the funding round was oversubscribed, so many businesses will not receive their requested grants.
